SHELTON, WA – From maintaining the functionality and security of electronic medical records to ensuring that new and current employees have all the tools they need to work efficiently in today’s high-speed world, the IT concerns of health care systems are vast and varied. Mason Health’s partnership with Cerner/Oracle ensures that we have on-site assistance for the District’s most pressing technology needs. Cerner employees are part of the Mason Health team and IT Specialist Jack Hylton, June’s Employee of the Month, is an outstanding example of our Values in action.

Like all of Mason Health’s on-site Cerner employees, Hylton interacts on a regular basis with Mason Health teams across multiple departments. He started as a Mason Health employee in May 2019, before the IT department transferred to Cerner. Hylton has always prioritized excellent customer service, a fact which his co-workers have not failed to notice.

“Jack is just so amazing and calm, and he has a great attitude toward everything, even if I called him three times because I kept having issues,” said Patient Financial Advocate Alex Schiffman. “He works right through with you without sounding irritated or annoyed. He is amazing to work with — fast, efficient and always checking up to make sure everything is operating well.”

Hylton grew up in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in the Class of 1999. He enjoys living in Shelton because of the natural surroundings and proximity to Puget Sound. He has always been interested in computers and IT because he likes to solve problems and help people.

“Absolutely, I knew that I would go into this type of work,” he said. “I worked almost 20 years in IT for a different company, but I came here because helping this community is more rewarding.”

Hylton always keeps a smile on his face at work, even when facing stress at home. During the pandemic, his wife, Brea, and their son, Evan, both were undergoing treatment for cancer.

“To me, staying positive is easy,” he said. “Everyone has had bad service when trying to fix an IT problem. I want to give the service that I want to get because we have all had those bad interactions.”

Hylton comes from large family, with lots of cousins in the area. His father worked for 37 years at Simpson Lumber and then Taylor Shellfish, while his mother worked as a paraeducator for the Pioneer School District. He and Brea have two daughters in addition to Evan, who just graduated from CHOICE High School after battling leukemia. In Hylton’s spare time, he enjoys blacksmithing with Evan, and the family as a whole like to go boating as much as possible.
