ALEXANDER HOWE ANNOUNCED AS MASON HEALTH NOVEMBER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Release Date: Dec 06, 2019

SHELTON, WA – For the past four years, Alexander Howe has distinguished himself as a positive and hardworking team player in the Mason Health Environmental Services Department. His willingness to always help out his coworkers across multiple departments has gained widespread recognition at Mason General Hospital. Mason Health is proud to announce Alexander Howe as the November Employee of the Month.

As an environmental services technician, Howe spends his days cleaning at the Hospital, which was a welcome change from his previous work selling books and magazines. Howe takes great pride in doing small acts of kindness for his coworkers, whether that be holding a door open for a nurse or bringing a wheelchair out to a patient in the parking lot. An Emergency Department nurse noted that during a busy night in the ED this past summer, Howe took the time to share snacks with the nurses, even though he was busy himself.

“My job doesn’t give me too many opportunities to directly help patients, but I try to find a lot of indirect ways of helping out,” he said. “I like being able to help people. I just smile a lot and always say yes to my coworkers. If I can, I try to go above and beyond to help them out.”

Howe grew up in Shelton, was homeschooled, and had various interactions with Mason Health throughout his life. It was not until later that he considered working for the Hospital, in part because he wanted to get his foot in the door at a workplace that was helping people.

“My last job wasn’t doing much to help people and it wasn’t all that social,” he said. “I like that now I get a peek at each and every department and see a glimpse of the kind of workload they go through. It’s given me ideas about what I might like to do next since I’d love to go back to college soon and if possible be a nurse or a doctor.”

In his free time, Howe likes to play guitar and piano
