To contribute to the well-being of non-English speaking patients, families and communities through a partnership that promotes culturally sensitive care.

Services Available to Mason General Hospital Patients

• Interpretation Services at hospital and clinic visits
• Cultural Mediation: Facilitating clinical encounters that involve cultural differences
• Teaching patients how to navigate the health-care system
• Helping patients to access the hospital Program for Uncompensated Care
• Advocating for patients
• Promoting the continuity of follow up care
• Assisting with forms and applications

Services Available to Mason General Hospital Providers

• Interpretation
• Cultural Mediation: Facilitating clinical encounters that involve cultural differences.
• Cultural Consultation: consulting about cultural issues affecting the care of a particular patient.
• Teaching Spanish classes for healthcare providers
• Educating clinical staff on how to work with interpreters
• Providing cultural information about a variety of topics including:
  • Health beliefs
  • Traditional health practices
  • Explaining diagnoses to patients

Services Available to Communities

• Working with the communities to identify and remove barriers to health-care at Mason General and in the wider community.
• Responding to requests for education about diabetes, asthma, depression and other topics.
• Providing a medical interpreter training once a year that is free and open to all community members who are bilingual in Spanish and English.
