Mason General Hospital will celebrate its 40th Anniversary in October, in a 3-day festive event reflecting on the hospital’s ‘40 years of Caring’ and promoting fitness, health, and safety for the whole family.
Presented by hospital staff, volunteers, and community participants, it all takes place at the hospital from Thursday, October 30 through Saturday, November 1, and is Free and open to the whole community.
After months of planning and preparation, MGH’s 40th Anniversary event offers something for everyone – even a chance to win a Nintendo Wii game with a Wii Fit - in a unique atmosphere of fun and learning. Featuring a special comedian guest speaker, hospital tours and history, a health fair complete with a KID ZONE, Mason General invites everyone to come and have fun.
Thursday, October 30
The event kicks off on Thursday at 6 p.m., with special guest speaker and comedian, Brad Nieder, M.D. Known as ‘The Healthy Humorist’, Dr. Nieder makes ‘laughter the best medicine,’ as he entertains and educates with a unique blend of comedy and healthcare advice.
Performing at dinner shows, conferences, and medical conventions across the country, Dr. Nieder has made a name for himself in show biz as well as in healthcare. He discovered improvisational comedy before going to medical college, and performed standup comedy in Denver while attending the University of Colorado Medical School. He is now a general practitioner who specializes in ‘healthy humor,’ and MGH is very pleased to have Dr. Brad Nieder, the Jerry Seinfeld of the medical profession, at their 40th Anniversary on opening night – which is FREE and starts Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with light hors d’oeuvres.
Reservations are required, as there is only room for 200, by calling (360) 427-9551. Reservation deadline is no later than Friday, October 24.
Friday, October 31
Friday will feature hospital tours at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., along with refreshments. There will also be historical displays at the end of each tour along with goodie bags and a chance to win a Nintendo Wii game with a Wii Fit.
The Yesteryear Club will be at the south entrance parking lot, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for those old time car fans (weather permitting)!

Saturday, November 1
On Saturday, the final day of the event, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. will be the Health and Safety Fair on the hospital’s lower level. The Kid Zone will be in the lower parking lot with FREE children’s activities; plus prizes, handouts, healthy snacks, and more! The health fair features free health screenings, safety presentations, and health information for all ages including:
- hand-hygiene check station
- cholesterol, bone density, and blood pressure checks
- information eye exams, dental/oral health, and immunization information
- stop smoking information and pulse check from Resperatory Therapy dept.
- bike/helmet safety, car seat, and seat belt safety checks with Medic One ambulance
- home safety with Mason County Fire Department
- CPR information for all ages with class schedules available
- diabetes health and diet information from MGH dieticians
- healthy snack information and low sodium/low fat recipes
- Community support programs, and organ donor information/bracelets
